The Village offices will be closed Tuesday, December 24th-Thursday, December 26th. We will resume normal business hours Friday, December 27th. Happy Holidays!
There is a Village wide overnight parking ban until April 1st. No overnight parking in the Village.
Fall leaf pick-up will begin October 7th. Debris pick-up will END October 18th. If you are unsure if you live within the limits you can always call us to verify. A quick way to know is if you have 4 numbers in your house number then you do NOT live in the Village. As a reminder we ask that these piles be LEAVES ONLY, no dirt, brush or sticks as these will damage the machine. Leaves must be in small piles at the side of the road. The machine only reaches so far so once the edge has been picked up, they will need to be re raked and moved closer if there are still more to be picked up. This is the property owner’s responsibility.
New Village Clerk Hours starting September 9th. Monday-Thursday 9-3, Fridays 9-1
- Casella will remove your old cans at no additional cost as long as you put a note on them saying "please throw away" and set them out with your trash for your scheduled service day.
- Glass is acceptable as recycling for the Village residents only. Outside the village they do not accept glass as recycling due to potential volume as they hand sort the recycling at their facility in Jamestown.
- Casella prefers to have as much of the trash bagged and tied inside the totes as possible. This makes collection easier for their workers and helps ensure nothing is left behind in the tote which could attract critters/odors.

The School Board of the Bemus Point Central School District has asked that we disseminate the attached information regarding the purchase of (2) electric school buses, infrastructure, and related charging equipment. As you know, this is a huge state mandate for all schools, to be accomplished by 2035. Our school system does not generally qualify for most grants or incentives and this is a one-time rebate opportunity for them to purchase two buses at no additional cost to the taxpayers. Acceptance of this rebate, as a result of a positive vote, opens the door for other grant opportunities from National Grid to upgrade the electrical system at the bus garage to charge their entire (future) fleet of electric buses. The process will require securing a bond anticipation note, to be repaid through their regular budget, upon delivery of the buses. The BAN requires a community vote, which will be held on September 5th.
I'm pleased to share with you that the Village of Bemus Point has been working with the District on several initiatives, including community involvement. Our interest here, in addition to seeing that safe and compliant school transportation is provided to Village students, involves the potential of having an extension of the National Grid electrical infrastructure (required for bus charging at the bus garage) dedicated to EV (electric vehicle) charging stations for use by the public on Sunnyside. We will be working on a shared municipal services grant for that purpose.
Please attend one of the informational meetings or the public hearing to learn more, as follows:
8/15 5:00-7:00PM Bemus Point Library
8/20 4:00-6:00PM Fluvanna Free Library
Public Hearing: 8/28 7:00PM Bemus Point Elementary School Cafeteria
Community Vote: September 5th, 2:00-8:00PM, STEAM Room Maple Grove Jr./Sr. High School
